 A safety zone is a personalized virtual boundary around a location that you?ve chosen. When your car enters or leaves an active safety zone, you can be alerted via email and/or text message (your choice.) You can create up to 10 safety zones, 5 of which can be active simultaneously at any given time. Safety zones can be quickly and easily turned on and off via Zoombak.com.
Safety zones can be quickly set up on Zoombak.com in 4 easy steps:
- Name your safety zone and enter an address or use the current location of your Zoombak Locator to create your virtual boundary.
- Select a boundary radius from as small as 110 yards to as large as 880 yards or a 1/2 mile.
- Create a schedule for when you would like your safety zone to be active. For example, Monday through Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm
- Select how and when you wish to be notified. For example, you can be notified via text message and email when your car enters and leaves the safety zone.

 "bait and switch" on there advertised yearly service pricing January 3, 2009
Good pricing and looks like a good product. Reviewed their three pricing option for their service plan on the Zoombak web site. Wrote down the pricing and then went to activate the unit. During this process I see they have a higher pricing for the service plans. Called them and told them I wanted the pricing they advertised on the web site. They would not honor that pricing and said this was "new pricing". I asked to speak to a supervisor - none available but stated supervisor would call me back in 1 hour. No call back after 7 hours. Packed up unit and returned to Amazon. LOOKS LIKE "BAIT AND SWITCH" ON THEIR PRICING TO ME.

Rip off Rip off Rip off. Read the 1 star reviews -- All too true. DO NOT BUY THIS. If you get it to activate make sure you tape it to your hat and do not go in any buildings or even walk in a park with a lot of trees. This is probably the device the US is using to find Bin Laden! The only reason this got one star is because you cannot submit less than one star.
Zoombak GPS from Amazon have problems December 30, 2008
I purchased a Zoombak GPS dog locator from EBAY and it works wonderfully. Since we own multiple dogs we decided to order the next one from Amazon since the price was lower. The first one from Amazon didn't work properly, sometimes it would locate my dog and sometimes it wouldn't, so I asked for a replacement. The second one is not working at all. The Zoombak help desk tells me that it's because these devices are old. If the device is not activated within 6 months it may not work. I don't know if that is an excuse or not but I'm now asking Amazon for a refund.
Operates OK, but not as expected December 28, 2008
I recently purchased three of these units and am dissapointed their performance. The safe zone notifications are random at best. Some times
I get them, sometimes they never show up. And, when they do finally show up, they say the unit just entered/left the safe zone right then.
Battery life is irratic. Granted, it is early winter, but these units go dead in 1-1/2 days sometimes. The low battery texts are unpredictable as well. Defintely recommend the hardwired option in cars instead of relying on battery life.
The web site is way too slow. The servers/software really need an update.
The GPS signal seems to be very weak. ANY obstruction and the locator may or may not be able to connect.
A log of past locations would be nice. You can't print or log anything on the site.
I had problems with the units not charging correctly and not syncing up right at the beginning as well. But, now they seem to operate OK. Nothing to get excited about. Just OK.
I wouldn't use these for anything really important. They just don't work as well as they should.

The zone alerts just do not work at all and are difficult to setup. Zone alerts are an area that you specify and everytime the Zoombak enters or leaves the area, depending on the setup, the Zoombak device is suppose to alert you via email or a text message.
In order to setup the zone alerts, you need an address. This may be fine for some applications, but if you are at the beach or at the park which do not have addresses, then it is very difficult to setup a zone alert. And if the location is outside a city, it is almost impossible to setup a zone alert.
Once you setup the zone alerts, the Zoombak does not always send the alert. On the one day I tried it, it only sent 5 out 15 alerts. At a few locations, it did not even send any out.
Zoombak has a 30 day risk free guarantee, but will only honor it if you purchase the device directly from Zoombak itself.
