 One of the best game pads ever made July 30, 2008
In the early 2000's after trying out several different joysticks and gamepads only one, to me, emerged the clear winner, the Hammerhead FX. With two analog sticks easily reachable by your thumbs, a POV button, 10 programmable buttons (6 on the top, two on the front and two more below the device) and with rumble force-feedback and autofire the Hammerhead FX is indispensible if you play computer games. The one that I bought also came with a USB adapter to connect to a USB port. Most computers these days have done away with the game port. It also came with a free game. I remember playing the space game till 1.00 A.M. For most games a few of the buttons alone are enough. As for the free game I could play it with just the left analog stick and one of the firing buttons.
The good news is that it is being sold for throw away prices these days. Even getting a used one is worth it if it works.
As I write this review sadly Interact, the company that made the Hammerhead FX no longer exists but loyal users of the Hammerhead are still providing driver updates. On the internet you can get drivers for Windows XP and Vista too.
Gamers, just don't be without it.

I can't believe I was able to find and purchase this old gamepad. I LOVE it!
I prefer the button layout to most other pads - the six on the top rather than 4 I mean. It also has quick response. Plugs into old-style gamepad ports, or USB via the spplied adaptor. It also fits my medium sized hands perfectly..the analog sticks are in just the right spot.
If you google you can find Win XP drivers as well.
Nothing bad to say about it! Great value!

I purchased a brand new, still in a sealed box, SV-262A model for $5.These gamepads are basically being given away for free because the manufacturer, Interact, no longer exists. I have the SV-262A, which is a Gameport version but came with a Gameport <--> USB adapter. You will have to hunt down the WinXP driver as it only shipped with Win9X drivers. They are out there and work fine, with the exception of the "Game Profiler". (WinXP driver doesn't support it.)

I was looking for a joystick with enough buttons to play some games that would cause a keyboard to lock up but with a D-Pad because I was more comfortable using one in most situations. This one works very well for that purpose. It's also very easy to configure the two analog pads for various things, including control of the mouse or 4 analog axes. It's easy to set the D-Pad directions to act like regular buttons or remap the buttons. There are more than enough buttons in various places so you should have no problem configuring this to work comfortably with any windows game that can use a joystick. In case you cannot tell from the picture, there are two shoulder buttons and two trigger buttons on the top and back. Their positions feel natural to me.This controller requires no calibration and has no mechanism to shift the center. I've had problems with other joysticks that "flicker" slightly, causing games that do not take into account the degree a joystick is pressed to think I'm pressing the joystick in a direction when I am not. I have had no such problems here. All of this assumes that you can install it, and installing it is where I had problems. I bought this used and the software was not included. It appears the InterAct site has been down for a while, and I had to go on a wild goose chase to find the drivers. Also, windows NT was not originally supported so if you have a version of NT or XP, you'll have to find the drivers online. So if you buy this, make sure you have the software for the correct operating system first (this is model SV-282, possibly with an extra letter at the end), or that it's included and you're running windows 9x. For reasons unknown, I haven't been able to get the keyboard mapping to work. The email address the software includes for support was unreachable. If keyboard mapping, macros, or auto-fire is a major reason you're shopping for this thing, or the idea of not having someone to badger with your problems worries you, you may want to go with a newer, better-supported product.
