Perfect with Linux October 30, 2008 I have to agree with an earlier review. If you don't know what ndiswrapper is, buy this and keep it that way. And never buy anything from Broadcom ever again. My start with Linux would have been a whole lot smoother had I done that. At least it forced me to make friends with the terminal early. Installation was easy on a Dell Inspiron B120 and the card was recognized instantly and automagically using Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron). My connection is now much stronger than with the old painful workaround using the Broadcom card. Enthusiastically recommended.
Intel proset software - The only way to go wireless May 29, 2008 Replaced some netgear trash in my wife's laptop, and always be sure to get the latest drivers and ProSet software from Intel's site. Intel has true professional wireless software... Windows zero-config built in software pales in comparison.
didn't work March 20, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered this to replace the Broadcom card in my laptop. I run linux and wanted a wireless card that worked better with various linux distributions. I was anxious to get this. Amazon doesn't stock this so I got it from one of the other sellers through Amazon.
This arrived in just 3 working days so they shipped quickly. The packaging it came in was a bit disappointing, it was in an ESD bag to protect it from static and packed pretty well in bubble wrap then placed in a bubble wrap envelope. It seemed odd that there was not a sturdy container for such a delicate piece of electronics.
I installed it in my laptop but couldn't get it to work. I tried it with a couple linux distributions but I couldn't get it to connect to my unsecured wireless network (I turned off encryption in order to eliminate that as the problem), I even reinstalled Windows XP and downloaded the driver from Intel but still had no luck.
I had high hopes for this from what I've read online and in reviews but I was unable to get it to work.
Wow! This couldn't have been any easier... February 2, 2008 This adapter installed in my Dell Latitude C510 in just a couple of minutes, and Ubuntu 7.10 configured it without a hitch. 1) Configuring wireless never seems to be easy on any OS (Mac excluded) 2) Linux is always a bear with wireless. If only everything was this simple!
Works as advertised. January 16, 2008 I purchased this wireless adapter (new) for less than $20 from an Amazon vendor who also provided the necessary driver download on his/her website. It works as advertised, both with Windows XP and with Vista Business Ed. Upgrade. No problems whatsoever, with either OS, on my Dell Inspiron 5100 laptop.
