Product Description This cordless Electric Teakettle is both handy and attractive. To use, simply fill with water and place on the heating base. Plug base into outlet and turn on the switch; in just minutes, you'll have boiling water for your tea. To make pouring easier, the pot lifts completely off the base and can be carried to your dining room or living room as a convenient and attractive serving piece. The teakettle's heating element is located in the base and never comes in direct contact with the water, preventing mineral deposit build up. The dimensions of the teakettle are 9.5"W x 7.75"D x 8"H.
Amazon.com Review For tea, instant coffee, or hot chocolate, this cordless, 1,500-watt electric kettle brings 1-1/3 quarts of water to a boil faster than a microwave. The kettle is made of stainless steel polished to a mirror finish. To provide 360-degree access, the kettle fits onto the power base in any position and swivels for easy liftoff. The heating element in the base never touches water, so there will be no mineral buildup on it. The roomy handle stays cool, the cord wraps on the base's underside, and rubber feet on the base resist slipping. For safety, the kettle shuts off automatically when water boils or if the kettle runs dry. The kettle stands 8 inches high on its power base and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

Thoroughly bummed out!!!! December 29, 2008 I did so much research on the tea kettles that Amazon offers before I purchased one. I had an old Russell Hobbs that I loved and died after a good six years. I love the look of the Chef's Choice 685 and was pleased with other reviews so I ordered it on Christmas eve and it arrived the following Monday. I went shopping the two days after Christmas and saw so many beautiful kettles (on sale) but knew I had my own amazing and beautiful kettle on the way. Imagine my surprise when I plugged in my shiny new kettle and it didn't work?! I actually called Amazon and they could only offer me a refund because they are out of this kettle. AND, I have to get down to the post office to return it. Obviously, there are worse things but when you live in a city and are on foot it becomes a MAJOR hassle and inconvenience. I love Amazon and I love Amazon prime, but I hate the fact that I received a defective kettle when the problem is such an obvious one. It leaves me to wonder if Chef's Choice does not do any quality control. I am now in search of another Russell Hobbs!
Amazing!! December 24, 2008 Amazon shipped it to me Christmas Eve morning like they promised and they delivered. It is not only beautiful but fast too. If your looking for a Teakettle look no longer I guarantee you will be happy with this choice. The minute I flip the one switch by the time I get my mug its already hot and ready to go..
best electric teakettle December 22, 2008 Tried this after buying the similar cuisinart which seemed a little heavier metal but created a plastic taste to the water. This did not seem to add any taste.
waste of money December 3, 2008 I bought this item 2 months ago when I moved to the USA, I was surprised to see that most people here use a hob top kettle which doesnt switch off automatically. I wanted what I was used to & because this would be 'on show' in my open plan home it had to look stylish. So I thought the price might reflect that & discounted the cheaper versions. What a fool! DAY 1, the second time I used it the outside part of the handle came off. I had thrown the box out already so decided to persever without the outer casing. Within a month the automatic switch off is cutting in well before the water is boiled. It makes big cracking sounds when boiling & is really loud throughout the long boiling time. I need to stand over it just as I would with a hob top. Useless. Waste of money.
Good but there are better choices November 23, 2008 We ordererd the Chefs Choice 685 because of its looks and reviews, but returned it due to three reasons (a) very flashy silver color, we prefer a matte look (b) cover does not fit smoothly, especially when pulling out and spills water on the kettle surface when removed (c) very light and not rugged. Apparently one of the earlier comments might be true that Chinese made models are not as well made as German made. We ended up buying the Breville
